Nothing in the world of water compares with or is more impressive than the natural spectacle provided by this magnificent series of 275 waterfalls that form Iguassu Falls. Located a few kilometers from the mouth of the Iguassu River, the falls captivate by their size, volume of water and strong currents.
The geological transformation that gave birth to Iguassu Falls began about 150 million years ago and shifted land on all of the terrestrial globe. In Iguassu this transformation created a gigantic canyon full of rocky recesses through which the Iguassu River majestically flows producing an immense cloud of mist and a deafening noise.
The average discharge of the Falls is about 1,800 m3 per second, an average volume of water of about 10 million liters per second. During periods of high water in the Iguassu River, the increase of the discharge affords an even more beautiful show, creating a violent displacement of water into the air. The largest of the Falls is Devil's Throat, measuring 90 meters in height. The amount of water plunging into the crater creates a cloud of mist that can be seen kilometers away. Above it, hanging from a set of parallel Tyrolean cables over an enormous void more than 50 meters deep, the team of the Brazilian mountaineer Waldemar Niclevicz crossed Iguassu Falls, in a feat of daring unmatched before or since.
